Hurling betting before the throw-in: rules and county championships
Hurling is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by two teams of 15 with an ash wood stick called a hurley and a small ball called a sliotar. It is administered by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The sliotar measures 69 to 72 mm across, rim excluded, and weighs between 110 and 116 grams. When women play the game, it is called camogie.
Hurley, hand and four steps
The sliotar can be struck with the hurley on the ground, in the air, out of the hand or after being lifted with the hurley, and a player may run with it balanced or hopping on the hurley. It may also be struck with the hand or kicked. In the hand it can be carried for no more than four consecutive steps, and after a catch it may go onto the hurley and back into the hand only once. Touching the ball on the ground with the hand is not allowed.
Goals, points and match length
A goal, scored under the crossbar between the posts, is worth three points; a ball over the crossbar between the posts is one point. Scores are written goals first, then points, and the team with the greater total wins: 2-18 equals 24 points, so it beats 1-19, worth 22.
Normal time is two halves of 30 minutes plus time added for delays. Inter-county senior championship and National League games run to two halves of 35 minutes. A knockout game that ends level can go to extra time of two 10-minute periods if the organising committee has provided for it beforehand.
County hurling championships
Each county runs its own club championship, from June to November. County champions go on to the provincial club championships between October and December, and the All-Ireland club semi-finals and final follow in January, with the final at Croke Park.

The 2025 county titles went to Ballyhale Shamrocks in Kilkenny, Loughmore-Castleiney in Tipperary and Na Piarsaigh in Limerick, whose final needed extra time.
