Ultimate is a non-contact team sport played with a disc thrown by hand. A regulation outdoor game is played 7 against 7; indoor and beach versions use 5 per team. A regulation field is 100 metres by 37 metres, including end zones each 18 metres deep.
How a point is scored
A point is scored when one team catches the disc in the opposing team's end zone. Players must not take steps while holding the disc: the thrower can only pivot in place and then pass to a team-mate.

Ultimate relies on self-officiating: players call their own fouls under a principle known as Spirit of the Game. The sport is governed by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), formed in 1984. The first World Championships took place in 1983 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and ultimate has featured at the World Games since 2001 after an invitational appearance in 1989.
